Domestic Violence Legal Advice and Information Service

Our Legal Helpline on 1300 366 424 is a free legal advice and information service for anyone dealing with domestic, family or sexual violence in South Australia. We offer confidential support through a team of lawyers trained to provide trauma-informed, priority assistance to people affected by domestic violence.

Sexual Violence Legal Service
 

We provide a dedicated legal service to anyone in South Australia who has experienced sexual violence. Our team of lawyers, social workers and a financial counselor work together to support people who have experienced sexual violence and help them navigate their pathway forward.

 
Legal Advice

Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service (WDVCAS)

The Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service helps women across South Australia who have experienced domestic violence to apply for an intervention order (previously known as a restraining order) and seek tenancy orders where they may be able to terminate their rental tenancy early.

Our Domestic Violence Unit helps women in metropolitan and regional South Australia who are at risk of or experiencing domestic violence. Services include legal advice, legal help in court, and social work assistance including in Whyalla, Port Augusta, Port Pirie, and nearby regions.

Support in Hospitals and Health Services - Health Justice Partnerships

We work in partnership with certain hospitals and health services to provide free legal advice and help from lawyers and social workers including guidance for those at risk of sexual, family, or domestic violence.

Family law resources

Support at Court for People Affected By Family Violence

The Family Advocacy and Support Service provides legal and social support for people affected by family violence, including legal advice, court assistance, help with applying for legal aid, safety planning, guidance through law processes, and connections to support services.

Family Violence and Cross-Examination of Parties Scheme

In family law cases involving allegations of family or domestic violence, the court may not let you or the other party ask each other questions directly. If this happens, legal help is available under the Family Violence and Cross-Examination of Parties Scheme.

Crisis Support for Domestic and Family Violence


You can access crisis help and advice for domestic and violence through:

  • Domestic Violence Crisis Line (1800 800 098) operated by Women’s Safety Services SA – for crisis support, referrals for housing / accommodation support, counselling and the Safe at Home service.
  • 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) – 24-hour National Support Help Line for those experiencing domestic or family violence and abuse.
