Domestic Violence Unit (DVU)

The Domestic Violence Unit (DVU) is a wrap-around legal and social support service providing legal advice and representation to women who have experienced domestic violence in the northern regions of South Australia.

The service is free and confidential and can be accessed by calling (08) 8111 5511, emailing FSIS@lsc.sa.gov.au or by referral.

The DVU provides legal advice and representation in a wide range of areas, including:

  • debts
  • intervention orders
  • residential tenancy disputes
  • civil and administrative matters
  • family law matters such as those concerning arrangements for children or the division of property.

The DVU can also help with access to further speclialist legal advice about migration, child support or Centrelink issues. 

The DVU social worker assists DVU clients with:

  • safety planning
  • making statements to police
  • accessing emergency financial payments
  • direct referrals for financial counselling
  • referrals to other services for assistance with emergency housing, domestic violence counselling, Centrelink issues and home safety and security assessments.
