The John Gray Memorial Library at the Legal Services Commission provides an information and research service to Commission staff.
The library is also able to extend assistance to private legal practitioners who are acting on legal aid assignments.
Private lawyers are welcome to use the library's resources and facilities for the duration of their legal aid assignment, but are requested to arrange access with the librarian in advance, quoting the legal aid file number. Sufficient notice for all requests will be appreciated, as providing a service to the Commission’s staff must take priority over external requests.
Research services may be available to assist external practitioners representing legal aid clients, but this is subject to the discretion of the librarian, and the availability of personnel.
The library has a wide range of hard copy and electronic resources, and library staff can provide copies of cases or legislation. Charges may apply to some services. Requests may be made by phone or fax, but email is the preferred option.
