Lawyers at the Legal Services Commission are keenly aware of legal needs that may arise following the occurrence of disastrous events, and the need for the provision of timely legal information and advice during the aftermath and recovery period.
The Legal Services Commission employs a legal officer who specialises in disaster-related legal issues. The legal officer can provide advice, targeted information resources and legal education to the community as well as providing support for other Commission lawyers who provide advice and information to the community.

In the event of a large-scale disaster in South Australia which may create a high demand for prompt legal advice and assistance, the Law Society of South Australia maintains a register of legal practitioners who have volunteered to be available to provide legal advice, support and assistance.
