South Australians are being encouraged to turn their minds to planning ahead this National Advance Care Planning Week.
Running from Monday 17 March through to Sunday 23 March, National Advance Care Planning Week focuses on raising awareness about the importance of planning ahead, particularly in respect of your wishes when it comes to your future health care choices.
As the largest provider of legal help in South Australia, Legal Services delivers over 150,000 legal assistance services each year – including advice on Advanced Care Directives.
Our website includes resources on a broad range of topics relevant at all stages of life.
Legal Services’ End of Life Planning Checklist and Worksheet is a particularly useful tool to help you plan for your future and record important details for those who may need them one day.
In 2023-24, the Legal Services Commission provided legal advice on 2,765 occasions relating to Wills, Enduring Powers of Guardianship, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Advance Care Directives – either through face-to-face appointments or via our free Legal Helpline.
We also offer free legal information sessions to community groups regarding Advance Care Directives, Wills and Estates, and Powers of Attorney. Visit our info session web page to request a session.
National Advance Care Planning Week presents a great opportunity to raise awareness of the legal tools available, so that South Australians’ wishes and choices can be known and respected by their loved ones.
To coincide with the week, Legal Services is hosting a free Webinar on Understanding the new Succession Act and planning ahead. Register at eventbrite.
