Legal Services has welcomed grant funding to support the growth of the world leading online separation tool, amica.
Under the Australian Government’s Community Legal Services Program 2025-2030, a number of national legal services have been provided funding to continue the delivery of important services and improve access to justice, including amica.
amica is a smart and simple online tool to guide couples who wish to separate amicably, to finalise parenting, property and money decisions.
An initiative of National Legal Aid, with the support of the Australian Government, and managed by the Legal Services Commission in South Australia, amica is the leading family law online dispute resolution platform globally using AI.
Continued funding will allow further technology enhancements to be made to the platform, improving functionality for clients, while driving the growth of amica and supporting more people to access the service.
Since its launch in 2020, amica has assisted in 15,000 matters nationally, helping couples and individuals to navigate the separation process in an accurate, calm, and fair way.
This has included 670 parenting agreements and parenting plans created, over 700 consent orders created, over 600 property agreements created, and over 6,000 users have reached a suggested division.
Previous enhancements have included superannuation splitting, and a single-sided version of the amica platform known as amicaone – which has seen over 11,000 individuals generate a suggested division without having to invite their former partner – something that is very much valued by people experiencing domestic and family violence.
Legal Services will continue to make enhancements to amica to ensure its ongoing growth, sustainability, and that it ultimately meets the needs of users.
