Holiday services and support  

 

Our offices will be closed on the following public holidays:

  • Thursday 25 December 2025 (Christmas Day)
  • Friday 26 December 2025 (Proclamation Day)
  • Thursday 1 January 2026 (New Year's Day)

Our Legal Helpline and Legal Chat will not be available on these days. You can find information and resources on a range of legal topics any time by visiting our Publications page or the Law Handbook.

From Monday 29 December through to Wednesday 31 December all office locations (excluding the Adelaide Office) will remain closed to the public. 

We recognise that the holiday period can be a difficult time for some. Help is available. Take care and reach out to the services below if you or someone you know needs support.

Safety and support

For domestic and family violence support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, call 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732 or the South Australian Domestic Violence Crisis Line on 1800 800 098.

If you are concerned about a child or young person at risk of harm, call the Child Abuse Report Line (CARL) on 13 14 78 (available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week).

If you are concerned that a child may be taken overseas without a parent's consent, visit the Australian Federal Police website to learn more about placing a child on the family law watchlist.

For immediate police assistance, call 000. For non-urgent police assistance, call 131 444.

 

Mental health support

Call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for suicide prevention and crisis support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Beyond Blue also offers information, resources and a 24/7 telephone and online counselling service. Call 1300 22 46 36.

The Kids Helpline provides 24/7 support for children and young people and their parents and carers. Call 1800 55 1800 or visit www.kidshelpline.com.au for resources on a range of topics including how to support young people following tragic events.

For 24/7 gambling support, visit www.gamblinghelponline.org.au or call 1800 858 858.

Visit www.knowyouroptions.sa.gov.au for information, resources and support if you or someone you know is experiencing problems with alcohol or drugs. 

If you are having financial difficulties over the holiday period, the Salvation Army can help provide food, gifts for children, a Christmas meal, and homelessness support.
