South Australia Police have issued further declarations for the purposes of their expanded powers to search for weapons in public places.
From midday 12 March 2026, police may search people and their belongings for weapons using a metal detector if they are in, entering or leaving any of the following shopping precincts:
For the purposes of public safety, police may order any person in a declared shopping precinct to leave and not return for 24 hours. It is an offence to remain or return to the area within 24 hours if ordered to leave.
Prior to this latest declaration, Police had issued declarations in respect of the 2026 Santos Tour Down Under and certain public events held on 26 January.
The declaration in respect of public transport issued on 30 December 2025 remains in effect. Police are entitled to search people and their belongings for weapons using a metal detector if they are:
Police may order any person on a declared public transport service or in a declared public transport hub to leave and not return for 24 hours. It is an offence to remain or return to the area within 24 hours if ordered to leave.
