Legal Services appoints new Chief Counsel

Legal Services has appointed Robert Walker as its new Chief Counsel.

Robert joins Legal Services with extensive legal and counsel expertise across both public and private practice.

Robert joined the independent bar in 2024. Prior to this, he worked at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions from 2015, where he most recently served as Acting Managing Prosecutor.

He has significant experience conducting complex criminal trials and appeals as Lead Counsel in both the District and Supreme Court of South Australia, including appearances in regional circuit courts.

Robert began his legal career with Legal Services in 2009 as an Advisor and then a Duty Lawyer. Through this work, he developed a strong commitment to improving access to justice for vulnerable South Australians.

He is highly respected for his commitment to developing the profession through training and mentoring of junior legal practitioners.

Legal Services CEO Annmarie Lumsden said Robert will provide strong leadership across the organisation, drawing on his extensive experience as an advocate in complex criminal matters.

"Robert's experience, leadership and understanding of Legal Services make him well placed to take on the role of Chief Counsel and we are very pleased to welcome him back to the organisation."
