Legal Services will establish a permanent office in Mount Gambier, expanding its regional footprint to help meet legal need in South Australia’s second largest city and the broader South East region.
As part of its ongoing commitment to improving access to justice in regional communities, Legal Services has been working to identify opportunities to enhance and support existing legal services across the state.
Legal Services CEO, Annmarie Lumsden said this work has highlighted Mount Gambier and the South East as a region where additional resources can complement the work already being delivered by local practitioners.
“Legal assistance in the region is currently provided by a dedicated group of practitioners who continue to serve their communities with skill and commitment, however many legal services are heavy reliant on fly-in, fly-out service delivery models,” Ms Lumsden said
“By establishing a permanent presence in Mount Gambier, we aim to support and strengthen the efforts of local practitioners and ensure consistent access to legal help is available for those who need it.”
“Kylie Holland, a respected local lawyer has been appointed Lawyer in Charge to lead this initiative and is currently recruiting for a team of lawyers and administrative staff, to ensure the delivery of high-quality services in the region,” Ms Lumsden said.
“Practitioners interested in working in the areas of criminal, family or civil law are encouraged to visit the Legal Services website for further details on these unique and exciting opportunities.”
Legal Services looks forward to working in partnership with the local legal profession and community stakeholders to ensure the delivery of accessible, high-quality legal services in the South East.
It is anticipated that Legal Services will begin providing localised services from its Mount Gambier office by late 2025, early 2026 with work underway to secure a local office location.
