Free legal help at hand for Whyalla community

In response to the issues facing the Whyalla community following the Steelworks entering administration, Legal Services is increasing its legal assistance capacity in the Upper Spencer Gulf to better support the region.

Legal Services’ CEO Annmarie Lumsden said as the largest legal assistance provider in South Australia, Legal Services is committed to helping the Whyalla community, particularly those impacted by issues related to the Steelworks.

“We cannot emphasise enough the importance of seeking early legal advice and information to alleviate the ongoing anxieties that accompany financial and legal challenges,” Ms Lumsden said.

“With Offices in Whyalla and Port Augusta, we are well-positioned to provide free general legal advice and information to the people living and working in the Upper Spencer Gulf region. Our goal is to help alleviate the stress and uncertainty that come with legal problems, especially for those under economic strain.

“The well-publicised issues facing the Whyalla community can be a significant source of anxiety, particularly for those experiencing financial hardship. Many residents may be unsure where to turn for advice and information. Legal Services is here to provide the necessary support and guidance.

“We will work closely with the State Government, the private legal profession and other legal assistance providers to support the Whyalla community during this challenging time.

“We encourage people in Whyalla to call our free Legal Helpline on 1300 366 424 for general advice on employment, debt recovery and other related legal issues. In-person advice appointments are also available in Whyalla.

“Thanks to the support of the State Government, we will be temporarily increasing our staff numbers in our Whyalla Office to meet the anticipated demand for legal advice and information.”
