Legal Services' new CEO commences

Annmarie Lumsden formally commenced as CEO / Director of the Legal Services Commission this week.

With a legal career spanning more than 30 years, Annmarie Lumsden has spent time with the ACT Attorney-General's Department, and subsequently Director of Criminal Law with Legal Aid NSW, and most recently as CEO of Legal Aid NT.

Attorney-General Kyam Maher said Annmarie Lumsden's appointment followed an extensive nationwide recruitment process.

"Annmarie is a dedicated, experienced lawyer with a genuine commitment to access to justice and I look forward to working with her," said the Attorney.

"I'd also like to acknowledge outgoing Director Gabrielle Canny, who has led the organisation with distinction for more than a decade."

Legal Services Commission Chairperson Peter Slattery welcomed the appointment.

"Annmarie is excited about the move to SA to take up the role and work with the Legal Services team which has, under Gabrielle's stewardship, established a reputation for innovation and thoughtful management in the delivery of high quality legal assistance services," Mr Slattery said.

The new CEO was delighted to commence this week in this important role in the legal assistance sector.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to lead an organisation which I've admired as the leader in innovation among Legal Aid Commissions in providing legal services to those who most need them," Ms Lumsden said.
