Legal Services' Law Society Award Winners

We’re excited to share the news that two of our longest serving staff members, Greg Mead SC and Graham Russell, were recognised for their commitment to promoting access to justice in South Australia, at the Law Society’s Annual Awards, held on Friday 11 August 2023.

We were absolutely thrilled when they were announced as joint winners of the 2023 Justice Award!

Everyone at Legal Services congratulates Greg and Graham. This is a significant achievement, and we’re very proud to see them acknowledged by the profession for their long and meritorious service to South Australians.

Greg has had an exemplary career in the legal profession, serving Legal Services with distinction since starting as a Legal Officer in our Criminal Law Practice Division in 1986. He is a very worthy recipient of the Law Society’s Justice Award, as someone whose expertise, commitment, hard work and passion for providing access to justice is clear to see.

Graham’s legal career started at the Australian Legal Aid Office in 1977. He joined Legal Services when it was created to replace the ALAO in 1979, starting on 30 January 1979, the ‘appointed day’ for the commencement of operations of the Commission. He is also a very worthy recipient of the Law Society’s Justice Award, as recognition for his 46 years of meritorious service and as someone who has clearly demonstrated his expertise and passion for Family Law and providing access to justice.

We were also pleased to see Emma Shaw awarded the Law Society Medal for Meritorious Service. This Award recognises a Member of the Law Society who has provided outstanding service to the Society, its Members and the profession, above and beyond the call of duty through involvement with the Society, whether via Council or Committee or in another exceptional way over an extended period.

And finally, we were also pleased to see one of our FDR Chairs, Julie Redman, awarded the Mary Kitson Award, which recognises a contribution to the advancement of the interests of women lawyers, and/or a recognisable contribution to issues in legal practice which affect women.

Congratulations again to all. These awards demonstrate the significant contribution that Legal Services’ people make to the legal profession in South Australia.
