Paid leave for domestic violence victims

By Legal Services CEO Gabrielle Canny

The Legal Services Commission of South Australia is supportive of the plan to further assist victims of domestic violence in South Australia, by allowing workers experiencing family and domestic violence to access paid leave for medical appointments, to attend legal proceedings and counselling, to relocate, make safety arrangements and other associated activities.

Our Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service supports many women seeking legal help after experiencing domestic violence.

In the first quarter of this year there's been a 45% increase in the number of victims seeking help from the Women's Domestic Violence Court Assistance Service.

There is never an excuse for domestic violence, never.

This is an issue that our entire society needs to focus on, and we welcome the fact that governments are making this a priority.
